Ellen Hutson LLC Hero Arts Wood Take 'n Make

This is my second entry into the Hero Arts contests over at the Ellen Hutson Blog "The Classroom".   This entry is for the Ellen Hutson LLC Hero Arts Wood Take 'n Make.

The wood stamp in my background is Hero Arts French Post (K5354).  The world and sentiment are from a Hero Arts Operation Write Home Clear Stamp Set (CL645).  The paper is BoBunny Timepiece Dot.  Ink is Tim Holtz Distressed Ink in Vintage Photo.

If I get a chance tomorrow I will post a cling stamp entry.

Ellen Hutson LLC Hero Arts Clear Take 'n Make

There is a contest going on over at the Ellen Hutson Blog "The Classroom".   It is the Ellen Hutson LLC Hero Arts Clear Take 'n Make.   I created a project using  the Hero Arts Clear Stamp set Amour.

I used the Cuttlebug Damask Hearts embossing folder and then lightly sponged over the top with Tim Holtz Distressed Ink in Tattered Rose and over the top of the sentiment too.  There is a contest for Hero Arts Cling Take 'n Make and Wood Take 'n Make also.  I am going to try to enter the other two contests also.

The Last Christmas Card

It has been a while since I posted.  Christmas preparations and my daughters's graduation from college on Saturday have kept me hopping.  I finished my last Christmas card last night and finally had time to post a card on my blog. This card is for our mailman (see the postage stamp).  I usually give my mailman a gift card for McD's.  He has his work cut out for him with all the online shopping I do!

Most of the ingredients came from the Apron Strings All Year Cheer Card Kit for November.  Apron Strings is a monthly kit club and I do love Lori's choices in her kits.  I added the postage stamp and the small circle in the left corner from an Authentique Festive icon sheet.  The Christmas Ad and plaid papers are from Echo Park's Seasons Greetings.  The red twine is from Maya Road.

I hope your Christmas preparations are going well.  Now I can get back to crafting Valentine Cards for Operation Write Home.  (Yes we are always months ahead on seasons because of the shipping time overseas).

Digital Scrapbooking

I have enjoyed very much doing Digital Scrapbooking in Storybook Creator 4.0 from Creative Memories. You can try the software for free for 30 days.   I have found it much easier to use that Adobe Photoshop.  You can also use both digital designs from Creative Memories or Digital Designs from other places.  You can even design your own digital designs (it is that powerful of a program).  This is a scrapbook page I made using the Rocky Road Digital Page Kit from the Digital Scrapbook Place. Ghost is our 10 year old Wiemeraner.  We rescued him 5 years ago.

Holiday Card Workshop Day 6

UPDATED!  Day 6 of the Online Card Classes Holiday Card Workshop is all about inking techniques.

For the dot background I used a Stampin'Up! stamp and wet embossed with opaque white embossing powder.  I cut a mask from heavy acetate using my Tim Holtz Sizzix Alterations Snow Flurries.  Then I applied Tim Holtz Peacock Feathers, Seedless Preserves and Salty Ocean inks to the cards.  I applied a coat of Perfect Pearl over the card.  The delicate snowflakes are a Memory Box Die and the larger punched snowflake is from Creative Memories.  Sentiment and label punches are from Stampin'Up!

The second card for the day was a faux stained glass.  I had the perfect stamp for this that I have had for many, many years.

I only cut the top half of my Creative Memories Shimmer White Paper with the Stampin'Up! Apothecary Arts Framelits.  This gave it a steeple look.  I embossed the Shimmer Paper with the Cuttlebug Paper Lace Damask folder.  The stamp was colored in with Tim Holtz Distressed Markers and then painted with Perfect Pearls Gold.

Holiday Card Workshop Day 5

Getting closer to catching up with the Online Card Classes Holiday Card Workshop.  This card uses wet embossing, die cuts and Perfect Pearls.

I used the Stampin'Up! Layered Labels "Heartfelt" stamp.  I overlayed it with a sentiment from The Paper Studio.  Ink is Ranger Archival ink in Vermillion and Elmerald Green.  The embossing powder is Ranger Super Fine Detail Clear Embossing Powder.  DSP is Noel available from Creative Memories as a Digital Kit.

Holiday Card Workshop Day 4

I am trying hard to get caught up with the Online Card Classes Holiday Card Workshop.  With each day showing at least two and maybe three card examples there is a lot to choose from.  This card is an example of coloring with distressed inks.

I started with a piece of 110lb paper but had to switch to Ranger Specialty Stamping paper.  I used Ranger Black Archival Ink and embossed with Ranger super Fine Detail Clear Embossing Powder.  The red is Tim Holtz Festive Berry Distressed ink applied with a watercolor brush.  I used my Distressed Markers in Pine Needles, Antique Linen and Tumbled Glass to color the rest of the image.  The stamp from Great Impressions (c) 2006 the I picked up at http://www.123stitch.com/ in their clearance section.  You can get some good deals there.  I keep making these small 3x3 cards because I will use them for Christmas giving this year.

I also completed another Valentine card for operation write home using the example that Julie Ebersole showed us on Day 3.

I used the Cuttlebug Damask Hearts Embossing folder.  The hears are coated with diamond stickles and then Glossy accents is applied over them (can't take a chance on any glitter getting on our troops)!

Holiday Card Workshop Day 3

Day 3 of Online Card Classes Holiday Card Workshop.  A different way of scoring backgrounds.  You don't have to score evenly.  Love the plaid look to this.

Yes, I know this is not a holiday card but Operation Write Home is already asking for Valentine's Day cards.   The Holiday cards are already in the mail to our troops.  I cut the images wit the Close to My Heart Art Philosophy Cartridge.  The stamp set is Close to My Heart "Mad About You."  I used Ranger Vermilion Archival Ink and Momento Rich Cocoa Ink.  The background is sponged with Tim Holtz Peacock Feathers Distressed Ink.

I hope you remembered to turn your clocks back!

Holiday Card Workshop Day 2

I am loving all the ideas I am getting from the Online Card Classes Holiday Card Workshop.  Here is my take on Jennifer McGuire's Card for Day 2.

The sentiment is from The Paper Studio and stamped in Ranger Vermillion Archival Ink.  I used a Stampin'Up! Edgelit Die to trim the card edges.  The heart punch is from Stampin'Up!  I used a subtle polka dot background on the kraft cardstock and the green ornament.  I edge the ornament hole and heart with gold leaf pen.  Jennifer put a baby picture under her heart.  My baby is 23 years old, so I stamped a Peace and Joy sentiment under my heart!

I also finished a card from the Day 1 example.

I had a hard time lining up the stamps from my example.  This was not an easy card for me but I do like how it turned out.  Stamps and sentiment are from The Paper Studio.  Inks are Stampin'Up! Tempting Turquoise, Pacific Point, Wisteria Wonder and Tim Holtz Distressed Peacock Feathers.

Holiday Card Workshop Day 1

Wow, almost a whole month since I posted.  I've been busy.  We spent a week in Vail, CO for our anniversary.  When I got back it just seemed like one thing after another.  I signed up for the Online Card Classes Holiday Card Workshop.  Here is my first card for the workshop.

This is a 3x3 card to use as a gift card.  The Cricut cut is from the Creative Memories Cheerful Seasons cartridge.  The "Joy" is from Close to My Heart (one of the Art Philosophy Stamp Sets) heat embossed in gold.  Background paper is from my scraps.  The envelope paper is from the Creative Memories Holidazzel Kit (only available as a digital download now).  I used my Crafter's Companion enveloper to make my envelope.  It was very easy using their PDF printout with the correct measurements.

I need to get caught up with class as I am several days behind!

30th Wedding Anniversary

Thirty years of wedded bliss to the same wonderful man!  Here's a peek at the outside of the card that I made to give him today.

I generated my own sentiment using Creative Memories Storybook Creator 4.0.  The fonts are Lucinda Bright and Aquiline.  The 30 is stamped with Close to My Heart Bohemian Alphabet using Tim Holtz Walnut  Stain Distressed Ink and then coated with Ranger Glossy Accents.  I also used Glossy Accents over the "Love Story" letters.  The paper is from a Simple Stories 6x6 Documented Pad.  Lace and Ribbon are from my stash.  I inked the lace with Tim Holtz Vintage Photo Distressed Ink so it would match the paper.

World Cardmaking Day Bloghop Graphic 45 Style

Welcome to the Operation Write Home World Cardmaking Day Bloghop!

For my card I started with OWH Sketch #10 because I wanted to do something with tags. I got some great free chipboard tags when I went to Scrapfest at the Mall of the America.
They are from the Graphic 45 Nutcracker Sweet.
(yes I know, "suite" is the word for the ballet music
but this is all about the beautiful  "eye" candy that Graphic 45 is famous for!)
Note:  the blue is a little more intense IRL.

This is the Graphic 45 8x8 Nutcracker Sweet pad.  To bling up the card I was able to glue rhinestone jewels inside the holes of the chipboard tags using glossy accents.  This is so the card is not bumpy and should be able to make it through the post office mashing machine!  I also used glossy accents wherever the design had a sparkle star I highlighted it with Glossy Accents.  Ribbon is from my stash.
One of my favorite memories is taking my DD to see the Nutcracker Ballet done by a local ballet school.  Professional Ballet Companies can't hold a candle to the fun of watching a ballet school perform the Nutcracker!  Enjoy the rest of the bloghop by clicking on the picture at the top of the page to take you back to the page with all the list of blogs.

Apron Strings Croptober Reboot Day 1

The Apron Strings blog is doing a Croptober.  Reboot Day 1 is to use the image below for inspiration.

I decided to make a card using the Apron Strings "September Smaller Than a Breadbox" kit.  I have been dying to use the Simple Stories paper with the large circles with sayings in them.  Here is the card I made.

The background paper is Simple Stories also.  The flowers are from the September Smaller than a Breadbox kit.  The ribbon is from my stash and the bling is  from Creative Charms.

Doodle Pantry Digital Challenge #28

The Doodle Pantry Blog is doing digital challenge #28.  The prize for participating is a beautiful digital image of poppies!  My daughter especially loves poppies.  Also poppies are a symbol for Veterans Day.  So I just had to participate in the challenge to get that image!  Here is my card.

This was the August challenge freebie but because of vacation I never entered the challenge.  Those ants on the moon are so darling.  The background paper is from the Creative Memories Discover Baby Boy Digital Kit  for Storybook Creator 4.0.  I thought the distressing in the upper left corner looks like tree leaves behind them.  The paper says "precious baby boy" all over it.  I printed the design twice so I could cut out and pop the stars and sentiment for some dimension.  The Sweet Dreams sentiment is die cut with the Stampin'Up! Apothecary Accent Framelit and inked with Tim Holtz Tumbled Glass Distressed Ink.  Bling is from Creative Charms.

OWH Sketch Challenge 140

It has been a while since I did a sketch challenge for OWH.  You will be seeing another from me when we have the World Card Making Day Bloghop on 6 October!  Here is my card from OWH Sketch 140.

The background paper is from a Simple Stories "Documented" 6x6 paper pack.  The lettering is from an unknown scrap and the damask print and postcard are from the same Simple Stories paper pack.   The LOVE lettering is from the Simple Stories Document Expressions Cardstock Stickers page (item #2303).  I inked everything with Tim Holtz Brushed Corduroy Distressed Ink.  The little bit of lace was a scrap laying on my work table and the card just needed a little something to finish it off.

Scrapfest at the Mall Of America

My dear Sister-in-Law talked me into going to Scrapfest at the Mall Of America this year.  She had attended last year and had so much fun she wanted to do it again.  I had an absolute ball!  It is a fantastic way for crafters to see vendors and learn about their products.  The have many booths with "make and takes" that are free (you must buy a Scrapfest badge to do the make and takes).  My absolute favorite booth was the Graphic 45 booth.  Each day of Scrapfest we made a different tag from their Lady's Diary line.  Here are the tags (each one measures 41/2 by 9 inches)

There were 27 booths and we hit each one of them at least once.  Many booths had different projects each day.  The Carta Bella and Echo Park booth did two projects a day!  Here is a sample of most of the make and takes I made.

We also attended two crops at the Archiver's store in Apple Valley MN.  The Friday night crop was sponsored by Maya Road and we made a darling card and got a goodie package of chipboard, a canvas mini album and a Vintage Embellishment Super Pack.  Maya Road has several grand prizes also but we didn't win.  On Saturday night the sponsor was Graphic 45.  We made a vintage card with real metal hinges and received a goodie pack that included Hampton Art stamps and a 12x12 pad of Graphic 45 Cirque paper.  I won one of the grand prizes that included an alphabet stamp set, Graphic 45 hardware, Little Darling Stamp sets and a Nutcracker 8x8 pad.  Plus the Archiver's store provided a goodie bag each night also.  I barely had enough suitcase room to cart all the goodies from Scrapfest home!

Last and best of all was the one hour and a half class with the Rock Star of crafting TIM HOLTZ!  (scream!)  He is one of the best instructors on video and even better in person.  The project taught us a lot of techniques.  After the class he was available for picture taking and autographing.  I had him autograph the top of my instruction sheet.  Here it is framed on my wall in my craft room next to my completed project.

We enjoyed talking to women from all over the country while we were standing in line for the make and takes.  And of course the shopping, there were some amazing stores.  I hope you might consider attending a Scrapfest.  You will not be disappointed.

My 9-11-2001 Story

This day is always a tough one for me.  On 9-11-2001 I was the Chief of Staff for the Colorado Army National Guard and on a Temporary Duty Trip to Washington, D.C. to visit the National Guard Bureau with 13 other members of the Colorado Army National Guard.  Our hotel was right across from the Pentagon.  It was a day of horror to be that close to terror and death.  If you are interested you can visit the Colorado National Guard news archives for my story.  There are other stories from Guard members who were with me on that trip also.  I ask God to bless our country every day and keep it safe. I pray constantly for the safety of our deployed service members.  We will remember.  GOD BLESS THE USA!

Elegant Wedding Card and VCMP Challenge 9

I finally finished my last challenge (#9) from the Operation Write Home Virtual Card Making Party last weekend.  Shannon at Sharing My Work for OWH challenged us to use a neglected tool.  I used my heat embossing tool.  It has been a while since I heat embossed and the results turned out gorgeous.

This is a wedding card I made for the son of a friend.  I stamped the Stampin'Up! Mr & Mrs in Ranger Jet Black Archival Ink and embossed it with Zing Clear Finish embossing powder.  It gave it a nice shiny raised feeling.  I used the Stampin'Up! Apothecary Accent Framelit to cut it out.  The paper is Creative Memories Tie the Knot Addition (no longer available).  I used Our Daily Bread Stamps for the inside of the card.

Then I made a gift card holder from my new Close to My Heart Artiste Cricut Cartridge.  I found the idea on Diane's blog Capadia Designs.  She was one of the first blogs I ever started following right after I bought my Cricut.  This Gift card holder is on page 55 of the Artiste Cartridge book and is cut at 5 inches.
That's it for the Virtual Card Making Party Challenges.  I had fun doing them and created more cards in a weekend then I did all last month.

Lawn Fawn Week Bonus Sketch

I couldn't resist this cute little fox and his pine tree for the Lawn Fawn Week Bonus Sketch at OWH.  This also is a card that represents Colorado for the 10th Challenge of the Labor Day Weekend VCMP.  Our state has a tremendous amount of National Forest Land with pine trees.  This year we have experienced many forest fires because of the drought.  Also our fox population has diminished due to mange so we have an over-abundance of rabbits to deal with.  On to the card!

Stamp Set:  Lawn Fawn Critters in the Forest
Craft cardstock
Background DSP:  Hey Birdie by Kaisercraft
Forground DSP:  Happy Camper Tree Hugger by imaginisce
Colored with Tim Holtz distressed markers
Banner Die Cut:  Itty Bitty Banners by Stampin'Up!

August Swap Card

The swap theme for August was Love.  When I make cards for my swap club I always make one or two extra for Operation Write Home.  This one is going to Operation Write Home and I Stickled the heart and then coated it with glossy accents to ensure no glitter flaked off.  This card also qualifies for the Lawn Fawn Midweek Throwdown  and the Glitter tutorial at Operation Write Home and the challenge on the Lawn Fawn blog.

All paper products and ink by Stampin'Up!
Stamp Sets:  Greeting Card Kids, Pennant Parade
Cardstock:  Whisper White, Basic Black, Cherry Cobbler

Ink:  Basic Black, Cherry Cobbler

Hambo Hoedown KICK IT UP!

The Hambo Hoedown "KICK IT UP!" this week was to us any of their digi's and torn paper.  I loved the cute Wee Henry doing Karate but I used "Artist Pig" and created a torn Color Wheel for him.  Unfortunately I missed the deadline but it was still fun to make the card.

I used Promarkers to color the pig.  I held my torn color wheel together with a brad because it was really hard to get it together!  It is also very hard to tear a triangle!  I used Creative Memories card stock for the color wheel and backgrounds.

VCMP Challenge 8

I am finishing up the challenges from the Virtual Card Making Party (VCMP).  Challenge eight was to make a sports themed card.  This was perfect for me because my DH birthday is coming up this month and I needed a card for him. He coaches High School Baseball in the summer.

I was at a loss for a sketch idea until I noticed Paula's Card in the links.  I CASEd her card.  Thank you Paula!
Paper and Stickers are Creative Memories Baseball Addition

VCMP Challenge 6 and 7

I am trying to finish up my challenges for the Virtual Card Making Party .  Challenge six was OWH Sketch 136  with Linda adding the twist of Use Your Punches.  Here is my take on the sketch.

Paper and Butterflies are from K&Company (I had to glossy accent the butterfly with the glitter)
Sentiment is Stampin'Up! Teeny Tiny Wishes
Punch is Word Window from Stampin'Up!

Now for Challenge Seven.  Sybrina K challenged us to make a Christmas Card for a Hero and a Christmas Card for a Hero to send home to a child.  That was a little tough for me as I don't do too many children's cards (mine is grown up and no grandkids yet!).  Here is what I came up with.

I used the Creative Memories Holidazzel Kit from Christmas last year.  It has some sparkly epoxy stickers that really brightened up the cards.  The paper edition is sold out but it is still available as a digital edition for both Storybook Creator 4.0 and other digital programs.  After I finished these cards I mad a bunch more and still have more paper left over to make some more.  OWH really got me crafting this weekend with the VCMP challenges!

VCMP Challenge 5

Challenge 5 for the Virtual Card Making Party (VCMP) was to make a card with a Western theme (Cowboys or Horses).  Lucky for me I recently purchased this stamp at the Rubber Stamp Expo in Colorado Springs.  The three horses remind me of my friend Linda who has three beautiful but aging horses. I bought this stamp to make a birthday card for her.

Materials Used:
Authentique Genuine Paper and sticker
Judy Duke Rubber Stamps (Horses, Brush Background, Pebbles)
Stampin'Up River Rock and Chocolate Chip Ink
Tim Holtz Distressed Inks Chipped Sapphire and Vintage Photo

I tried scanning the card instead of photographing it because I was tired of my camera distorting the squareness of my card.  The pop-dotted image makes the background paper fuzzy so that doesn't seem to be the answer either.  Any ides on how to get my camera to behave?

VCMP Challenge 4

Challenge 4 for the Virtual Card Making Party (VCMP) was to make a card using the Triple Time Technique.  The link has the directions how to do it.  Here is my card.

Materials from Stampin'Up!:
Pumpkin Pie Cardstock
Very Vanilla Cardstock
En Francais Stamp
French Foliage Stamp
Pumpkin Pie Ink
River Rock Ink
Soft Suede Ink
Lucky Limade Ink
Early Expresso Ink.
Sentiment by Hero Arts OWH Home set.

VCMP Challenge 3

I feel like I am way behind on these challenges.  Mostly because I spent 4 hours yesterday walking our precinct to help our State House District member get re-elected.  So I got off to a late start.  Here is challenge number three which was 'Snowflakes but not Christmas'.

This paper and sticker is from a Creative Memories Winter Addition.  The cardinal is so cute with his plaid wings!  I used Creative Memories White Shimmer Cardstock for the card base, snowflakes and sentiment.  It is perfect for OWH because it is shimmery but does not flake off.  I used the Creative Memories Snowflake Pocket Punch for my snowflakes.  The stamp is from TPC.  See you for the next challenge!
