Operation Write Home Midweek Monkey Throwdown

This week at Operation Write Home the Midweek Throwdown challenge is Monkeys!  I rarely make cards with animals on them (mostly dogs) and so my scraproom was seriously devoid of any Monkey/Jungle type supplies.  I did have one Cricut Cartridge Creative Memories Stork's Delivery with this darling monkey on it.

The jungle paper is from Creative Memories Cheerful Tropical Addition and the cute palm trees are from the Creative Memories Delight Surfer Girl Digital Edition.  I printed the paper and palm trees using StoryBook Creator 4.0 software to size them correctly.  The sentiment stamp is from the Creative Memories limited edition Stamper System Bundle.  If I decide to add any monkey supplies to my scrap stash I would like to add a sock monkey stamp because I think sock monkeys are adorable.

June Swap Club

Here is my card that I made for my Stampin'Up! swap club members.

It is hard to see but the black paper is dry embossed with large polka-dots from the Texturzed Impressions set.  I fussy-cut the white flower so that the black punched out flower behind it shows up better.  The black and white polka dot paper is Night and Day (retired) from Stampin'Up!  The stamp set is Mixed Bunch for the flower and Kindness Matters for the sentiment.  I used the new framlits dies for the banners.

OWH Midweek Throwdown Color Challenge

The Color Challenge this week for Operation Write Home's Midweek Throwdown is blue and yellow.  I am barely getting this in under the wire!
I know this looks kind of orange but in real life it really is more yellow and the blue is more turquoise.  I just can't seem to get the colors right with the photo editing software.  The paper is Raspberry Road Designs Luxury Paper Collection. It reminded me of the illustrations on sewing patterns back in the day.   It was a gift from Cardmaking and Papercrafting Magazine.  I got the idea to use it from Desert Rose Outpost because she used one of the papers in the collection for one of her cards (and she did a very beautiful job).  The sewing thread and scissor stamps are from Stampers Best Sewing Kit Stamp Set and the sentiment is from Great Impressions Stamps.  I used Stampin'Up! Tempting Turquoise ink and Creative Memories cardstock.

Operation Write Home Sketch Challenge 127

The Sketch Challenge at Operation Write is #127 this week.  Here is my version of the sketch.

As I was digging through my stash of paper I found a 12x12 pad of paper I forgot I had.  It was from K&Co and it was all neutrals (one of my favorites).  The ink is Tim Holtz Distressed Ink in Vintage Photo (another favorite of mine).  The Stampin'Up! set is Elements of Style.  I love the hummingbird.  I was able to use the new Stampin'Up! Apothecary Accents Framelits for the sentiment and sentiment border and just trimmed a little off the top and bottom to get the look I wanted.
Thanks for looking.

Two Dad's Day Cards

I wanted to post these two Dad's Day cards that I made for my husband but did not want to post them until after her received them. The heat here (over 100 degrees for the last 5 days with no end in sight) has made me disinclined to do anything but sit in front of my window air conditioner.  My crafting room in the basement has not stayed cool due to the extreme heat.  This is NOT normal for Colorado and the fires have smoked up the air really bad.

But I digress, I made this card for my daughter to give to her Dad.
I used the Art Deco Cricut Cartridge.  I love the monogram designs you can make with that cartridge.  The DSP is Night and Day a retired DSP from Stampin' Up!

Here is the card from me that I made for my husband.
The background is made using Ranger foil tape sheets, a Tim Holtz embossing folder, Ranger Adironack Alcohol inks and then rubbing with steel wool.  There is a video you can watch on the technique on the May Flaum "Confessions of a Chocoholic" blog.  The Chevelle stamp and sentiment are stamped on Creative Memories White Shimmer Cardstock.  He loved both cards and was blown away by the Chevelle stamp from Stampers Best.  He raced a Chevelle on the quarter-mile track in his younger days, so this card was special to him.  I can make him many more with this great stamp.  (Also will be great for Operation Write Home masculine cards!)
Thanks for looking.

OWH Sketch Challenge #124

For the Operation Write Home Sketch Challenge #124 I decided to use it to make the Father's Day Card for my Father-in-law.  I found this Rusty Tractor stamp at StampersBest.  My FIL loves John Deere Tractors and has and antique one that he has take to tractor shows.  Here is his Father's Day Card.
After stamping the two images (Rusty Tractor) and No1 Dad from American Art Stamps, I inked the paper with Tim Holtz Distressed ink in Peeled Paint and Vintage Photo and flicked some water on it to add interest.  The background paper is Tone on Tone Paper from Creative Memories Primary Digital Power Pallet.  I embossed it with a Sizzix Tim Holtz Alterations embossing folder with gears on it.  Cardstock is from Creative Memories.  Brads are from Oriental Trading  Company.

OWH Our Daily Bread June Challenge

The Our Daily Bread Challenge for Operation Write Home for June was a shaped card. Our Daily Bread Designs sponsors the mailing costs of a box of cards to the troops for every 25 cards we post on the challenge.  Help OWH get to 50 cards so two boxes can be sponsored.  Here is my shaped card.
This will be a Any Hero card once I get the inside written.  This is a cut from the Wild Card Cricut Cartridge but it could be easily done by hand.  It will fit into a standard A2 size envelope.  I used the OWH Hero Arts Stamp set for the front.  The quote inside is from the Freedom isn't Free set by K.Andrew's Stamps and the Patriotic design underneath is from a set by Cloud 9 Design which I purchased at JoAnn's but I can't find a link anywhere for them.  Cardstock is Creative Memories.  Ink is Stampin'Up!, Basic Black, Island Indigo and Poppy Parade.  Brads are from Oriental Trading Company.

The Image I use on Google

When you look over at your followers list on your blog, you will see the image of a carousel horse that I use as my Google image.  This is a watercolor that I painted several year ago.  I thought it might be nice for you to see it in a larger size.

Watercolor on 140lb Arches Cold Pressed Paper
I continue to paint watercolors and attend a painting workshop once a week where friends gather and we critique each other's works.  Not everyone uses watercolor, there are oil and acrylic painters as well as colored pencil artists in the class also.  It is a nice break for me to get out and create with fellow artists. I might share an occasional watercolor on my blog in the future.

OWH Bonus Sketch Challenge Take 2

Operation Write Home Bonus Sketch is such a fun one I had to do one more card with this sketch.

The stamps are my absolute favorites.  They are from Great Impressions Stamps #G269S and #H157S.  I inked them up with Ranger Jet Black Archival Ink.  I just love this little doggie!  I colored his ears with Prismacolor markers and his pink tounge with Tim Holtz Distressed marker in Worn Lipstick.  Cardstock is from Creative Memories.

OWH Sketch Challenge #123 and Club Scrap

After viewing the wonderful cards on the blog hop and the stamping video that Club Scrap made for OWH, I decided to try out a kit from Club Scrap.  I ordered their Wildflower May Club Stamp kit.  I found their DSP to be gorgeous and the quality of their cardstock is phenomenal!  Here is Operation Write Home Sketch #123 using Club Scrap DSP, cardstock and vellum.

The stamp image is from Hampton Art and I picked it up on sale at 123 Stitch.  They carry rubber stamps as well as cross stitch and needlepoint products.  The background for the stamp is Tim Holtz Adirondak Alcohol Inks in Purple Twilight, Sunshine Yellow and Gold Mixative on Ranger Glossy Paper.  I stamped the image with Ranger Jet Black Archival ink.  The edges of the papers were inked with Tim Holtz Tea Dye distresssed ink.  The flower is from Creative Charms.

Hambo Hoedown 68 "Pig"casso

Here is my entry for this week's Hambo Hoedown.  This is the sketch we had to use for the entry.

And here is my take on the sketch.

"Artist Pig" digi image by Hambo Stamps
My "Pig"casso has his painting framed and displayed for all.  I made his pallet and brush look like wet paint using Ranger Glossy Accents.  "Pig"casso is colored with Prismacolor markers.  His painting is created with Tim Holtz Adirondack Alcohol Inks in Purple Twilight, Sunshine Yellow and Gold mixative.  His picture frame is a journaling sticker from Prima with the center cut out.  The DSP is Creative Memories Primary Power Pallet available only in digital.  The cardstock is Creative Memories also.  The ribbon is from Creative Charms.
